Pune, 15th December 2022: Sewak Nayyar’s latest book of short stories in Hindi – Quarantine Aur Anya Kahaniyan – was released in Pune at a function held on 15th December to celebrate the Defence Estates Day falling on 16th December.

A collection of stories born out of the recently witnessed ghastly pandemic of Covid-19, the book was released by KJS Chauhan, IDES, Principal Director, Defence Estates, Southern Command, Pune.

The book is undeniably a strong antidote to the dreadful disease which impacted people all over the world and took a toll on crores of human beings, irrespective of their place of abode, age, sex, caste or creed. Nayyar picked up his pen and created a dozen fascinating and impactful tales of human suffering, simultaneously projecting the goodness and greatness of human nature. Thus the stories also celebrate the gallant and virtuous deeds of chivalry performed in the face of utter and unprecedented calamity, not only by the Corona warriors but by one and all.

Whether he was prompted to write these stories to present a true and dispassionate account of the horrendous times we all went through or to get over the woeful memories of these times, only Nayyar can tell. But it is certain that by giving a veritable expression to the torture people suffered, he must have lessened his sorrow and felt greatly relieved of his suffering, much as the readers are also bound to do so by learning about the sorrows of crores of others.

‘Quarantine’ and other stories are replete with the description of such poignant scenes, touching characters, and real-life situations that the reader is left speechless and awe-struck and virtually transported to the Corona times, which were no less appalling than a nightmare!

Nayyar’s language is simple, direct and appropriate as per the mood of the story. At the same time, it’s rich with the usage of beautiful imagery and metaphors. The stories have also been written in English, Urdu and Punjabi, and will soon be available.

‘Quarantine our Anya Kahaniyan’ has been published by Bhavna Prakashan, Delhi, and is available in hard-bound and paperback editions in all book stores and Amazon.
