G-20 Summit: An Opportunity To Take Pune’s Progress To The Global Stage
Pune, 4th January 2023: India accepted the presidency of G-20 from Indonesia on 1st December 2022. For the first time, the G20 Leaders’ Conference will be held in India, and it is a matter of pride for all Indians. India’s presidency will be important for finding practical solutions to global problems. It has a special significance as the conference is being held in the world’s largest democratic nation.
The G-20 group includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, England, the United States, and the European Union. A delegation of 37 nations will participate in the G-20 conference in India.
G20 is important as a major forum for economic cooperation at the global level. The G20 was established in 1999 to discuss economic issues in the wake of the Asian financial crisis. The G-20 conference is important as this group represents two-thirds of the world’s population.
Although the organization’s initial focus was on economic issues, the role was later broadened to include issues such as trade, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, sustainable development and anti-corruption. Therefore, this conference has gained special importance in solving global problems.
The concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The World is One Family) was adopted during the presidency of India. It is a matter of great honour for India to hold the presidency of the G-20 in the golden jubilee year of Indian independence. Based on the mission of human welfare, peaceful cooperation and sustainable development, India’s role can effectively reach the global stage.
In light of the serious problems in the world today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his belief that India’s presidency of the G-20 will be comprehensive, ambitious and decisive. While explaining the importance of the environment and development to be universal, women’s development, and world peace, he explained India’s welfare role by presenting the formula – One Earth, One Family, One Future.
On the occasion of the G20 summit in India in September 2023, around 200 meetings will be held across the country on various topics such as information technology, trade cooperation, environment, green energy, education and cultural exchange to advance the ideas based on the role of global welfare. Four of them are happening in Pune.
The first meeting in Pune will be held on the 16th and 17th of January 2023 and the administration is preparing for it. On this occasion, the streets and squares of the city will be beautified. Stating that every citizen of Pune is the host of these meetings, Guardian Minister Chandrakantada Patil has appealed to Pune residents to participate in this project.
“It is our culture to honour and welcome guests. During meetings, everyone’s cooperation is important in the work of transportation, cleanliness, and enhancing the beauty of the city. Pune’s educational facilities, industrial development, art and culture, hospitality and tourism potential in Pune is an opportunity to reach the global level. This will be of far-reaching benefit to the city and the district,” he said.
Citizens are requested to keep the city clean and beautiful and prepare to welcome the representatives of the major countries of the world.
