Pune: Delay In Appointment Of New RTO Affects Smart Card Printing, Pending Cases Of Smart Card Reach Over 17K In Five Days
Pune 7th August 2023: Hundreds of vehicle owners are waiting to receive Registration Certificates (RC) also called Smart Cards of their vehicles as the process of printing these Smart Cards has been affected due to absence of a Regional Transport Officer. Ajit Shinde, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Pune retired on July 31 and since then there has been no decision or announcement to fill his space.
However, this has impacted the work of the office as the number of smart cards pending has gone over 12,000. According to reports, the Smart Cards are issued with the signature of RTO and since there is no new appointment after Shide retired the cards are not being issued. The issue is not limited to the Registration Certificates (RC) as the citizens have also complained of delay in getting a driving licence.
According to reports, the delay in appointment of the new RTO is pending as the state government has recently approved to make Pimpri Chinchwad a separate RTO office due to which the process is taking more time than expected.
