Pune: Ongoing CNG Shortage at Torrent Gas Pumps Raises Concerns
Pune, 1st December 2023: The persistent shortage of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at Torrent Gas pumps is causing mounting concerns among consumers and stakeholders. Despite continuous communication with both oil companies and Torrent Gas, as well as engagements with the administration and the Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies over the past six months, the pumps continue to face extended periods of unavailability.
Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association Pune, highlighted another pressing issue, stating, “The pending outstanding dealer margins of Torrent Gas dealers have been unresolved for two years. Despite multiple emails and reminders to SLC, administration, and ministry officials, a solution remains elusive.”
Efforts, including meetings with the former Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ravindra Chavan and the state-level coordinator for oil marketing companies Santosh Nivendkar during a July meeting, have yielded promises of intervention. However, the issue persists, causing inconvenience to petrol pump customers and casting a shadow on the reputation of dealers.
In response to this ongoing challenge, the Petrol Dealers Association Pune has proactively written to the district administration, urging immediate action. The association calls for invoking the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act on all concerned stakeholders, emphasizing negligence in streamlining supplies.
The continuous shortage of CNG not only disrupts daily operations but also poses a significant challenge to the reputation of dealers. The affected stakeholders are urging urgent intervention for a swift resolution to restore normalcy and uphold the integrity of essential services.
