Pune: Doctor Faces Legal Action for Treating Injured Sandalwood Thieves Without Alerting Authorities
Pune, 29th October 2024: Police patrolling the Law College Road area in Pune were recently attacked by sandalwood thieves. The doctor who treated the injured thieves, shot by police in self-defence, is now facing legal trouble. Senior police officials have indicated that a case will be registered against the doctor who treated the suspects without notifying authorities.
On 22nd October at around 2:30 AM, Police Constables Mahesh Tambe and Ganesh Satav from Deccan Police Station were patrolling Law College Road when they spotted sandalwood thieves near Janki Villa in the Abhinav College Road area. Upon seeing the police, the accused attacked them. In response, Constable Tambe fired a shot at the thieves’ feet, injuring Shah Rukh Kadir Khan Pathan and Farukh Khan Kadir Khan Pathan, both residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Police arrested Asif Harun Khan Golwal, 24, also from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. A case has also been registered against Nadim Khan Latif Khan, Firoz Khan Sharif Khan, and Najim Khan.
Despite being injured, Pathan reportedly travelled to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on a two-wheeler for treatment, where doctors did not file the required Medico Legal Case (MLC) report. Senior police officials allege the doctors appeared to assist the accused and have stated that a case will be filed against the medical personnel involved. Police are continuing their search for the remaining suspects who remain at large.
