Pune, 18th November 2024: The Sikh Helpline Foundation commemorated the 555th Guru Nanak Jayanti with a remarkable green initiative at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Pune Camp. In a meaningful celebration promoting environmental consciousness, over 5,000 plants were distributed to community members.

The event reflected Guru Nanak’s teachings, as expressed in the verse:

“Pavan Guru, Pani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahat,”

which translates to “Air is the Guru, Water is our Father, and Earth is our Mother.” This powerful message highlights Guru Nanak’s deep reverence for nature and his call for its preservation.

Raj Singh, founder of the Sikh Helpline Foundation, emphasized the organization’s mission to foster green initiatives and raise environmental awareness within the community. To honor the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, 5,555 plants were distributed, including Jade plants, symbolizing prosperity and resilience, to encourage attendees to cultivate them at home.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from distinguished guests such as Sanjay Naik and his Sarasbaug Utkrust Group, Lt Col Sameer Kulkarni and his wife Advocate Megha Kulkarni, MBA students from M-Woodpeckker, and volunteers from Give Green. Their involvement underscored the collective commitment of the community toward environmental sustainability.

Attendees who demonstrated an understanding of Guru Nanak’s teachings were gifted plants, fostering curiosity and deeper engagement with his values. The celebration not only paid tribute to Guru Nanak’s legacy but also aimed to nurture a greener and more sustainable future for the community.
