Wagholi, 27th November 2024: Sewage water has accumulated on the main road leading to Ivy Estate Society in Wagholi, which is home to approximately 5,000 residents living in 500 flats. The stagnant water, which originates from a nearby vacant plot, has formed large ponds of wastewater, causing significant inconvenience for the residents. Despite repeated complaints, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has yet to address the issue, leaving citizens frustrated and concerned.

The overflow of sewage appears to result from untreated waste being discharged into the vacant land adjacent to the society. This not only creates pools of stagnant water but also generates an unbearable stench and a growing mosquito menace in the area. Residents are particularly worried about the potential health risks, including respiratory issues and the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, which are aggravated by the untreated sewage.

One frustrated resident shared, “This issue has persisted for days, and despite our repeated demands to treat the sewage and prevent further contamination, the PMC seems unwilling to take any action.”

The untreated sewage continues to flow unchecked into open spaces and streets. Residents have begun investigating the source of the wastewater, suspecting it could be coming from nearby societies that are discharging untreated sewage into the open space.

While PMC officials have issued notices and promised to inspect the situation, legal action is reportedly planned against those responsible for discharging untreated waste. However, the lack of immediate action has left residents anxious about the deteriorating hygiene and its potential impact on public health.

The residents are now urging PMC to prioritise resolving the issue before the health risks escalate further.
