Pune Customs Disposes Over 6,365 Kg of Seized Narcotics in Anti-Drug Campaign
Pune, 28th November 2024: The Pune Customs Commissionerate has destroyed over 6,365.04 kg of seized narcotic substances, sending a strong message in its ongoing campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The pre-trial disposal was conducted on 26th November at the factory premises of M/s. Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited, MIDC, Ranjangaon, Pune, under the provisions of Section 52A of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The destroyed substances included 1,552 kg of ganja, 279 kg of charas, 4,532.94 kg of mephedrone, 0.97 kg of methamphetamine, and 0.3 kg of cocaine. These drugs were seized across 14 cases booked by Pune Customs, leading to the arrest of 23 individuals involved in trafficking.
“The disposal of such a massive quantity of narcotics reflects our commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking. Our efforts are guided by the government’s policy to ensure swift action against drug-related crimes,” said Sonal Jawanjal, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Pune.
The disposal process adhered to the guidelines of G.S.R. 899(E) Notification dated 23rd December 2022, issued by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. A High-Level Drug Disposal Committee, led by Commissioner of Customs Pune, Yashodhan Wanage, supervised the operation.
Pune Customs Commissionerate’s jurisdiction includes the districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. It has a dedicated Narcotics Cell that plays a crucial role in the detection, seizure, and destruction of illicit drugs.
“The coordinated effort to destroy these narcotics signifies our unwavering resolve to curb the menace of drug trafficking and protect society from its harmful effects,” Jawanjal added.
