Pune CNG Crisis: Dealers Seek Immediate Action as Low Pressure Triggers Long Queues
Pune, 28th July 2026: The Petrol Dealers Association Pune (PDAP) has urged Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) to immediately restore normal CNG pressure across Pune and expand the city’s CNG infrastructure to meet growing demand.
A PDAP delegation led by its president Dhruv Ruparel met MNGL Managing Director Girja Shankar and senior officials on Tuesday to discuss the low CNG pressure being reported across the city for more than a month.
The association said the prolonged low-pressure situation has resulted in long queues at CNG stations, traffic congestion, operational disruptions, financial losses for dealers and inconvenience to consumers. It also said dealers have been facing the anger of consumers despite the issue being beyond their control.
The delegation included PDAP Working Committee members Keyur Shah, Bhagyendra Chudasama and Dhananjay Shitole, along with CNG dealers Ghanshyam Dharmavat, Suvarna Patil and Ameya Malpathak.
During the meeting, PDAP urged MNGL to restore normal gas pressure at all CNG stations and ensure adequate and uninterrupted gas supply to retail outlets.
The association also requested MNGL to issue an official public communication explaining the reasons behind the disruption and providing a timeline for restoration of normal supply.
PDAP seeks joint meeting with Pune administration
With traffic congestion increasing around CNG stations, PDAP urged MNGL to convene a joint meeting involving the company, the district administration, Pune Police and the association.
According to PDAP, the meeting would help stakeholders understand the prevailing situation and formulate measures to manage traffic, maintain law and order and minimise inconvenience to citizens until the issue is resolved.
Demand for more CNG stations in Pune
PDAP also called for a time-bound roadmap to expand Pune’s CNG infrastructure in view of the increasing number of CNG vehicles in the city.
The association has sought an increase in the number of CNG dispensing stations, augmentation of pipeline capacity, strengthening of the gas distribution network and faster commissioning of new CNG stations.
PDAP said the existing CNG infrastructure needs to be expanded to meet future demand and prevent similar supply-related problems.
MNGL Managing Director Girja Shankar assured the delegation that corrective measures were underway and that the company was making efforts to improve the situation at the earliest.

“The patience of CNG consumers and dealers has been severely tested over the past month. Dealers are the face of the service but are being unfairly held responsible for a problem entirely beyond their control. We appreciate the positive response and assurance extended by Shri Girja Shankar and the MNGL management. However, what is now required is swift and visible action on the ground.
“PDAP has urged MNGL to immediately restore normal gas pressure, convene a joint coordination meeting with the district administration and Pune Police, and implement a time-bound plan to strengthen Pune’s CNG infrastructure.
“We have also strongly emphasised that the existing number of CNG stations is inadequate for a rapidly growing city like Pune. Expansion of the CNG network through a substantial increase in dispensing stations, augmentation of the gas distribution infrastructure and faster commissioning of new CNG stations is no longer an option—it is an urgent necessity.
“These measures will reduce waiting times, ease traffic congestion, improve consumer convenience and ensure reliable CNG supply across the city. PDAP will continue to pursue the matter until a permanent and sustainable solution is achieved in the interest of consumers and dealers.”
