Rising Complaints Lead PMPML to Enforce Strict Rules for Bus Drivers and Conductors; Fine of Rs 1,200 and Suspension for Repeated Offences
Pune, 29th November 2024: Due to a rising number of complaints against the drivers and conductors of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses, the administration has decided to enforce stricter regulations. Drivers caught violating traffic rules will now face a fine of ₹1,200, with repeated offences potentially leading to suspension.
PMPML operates bus services across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and areas under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). However, an increasing number of complaints have been received, particularly regarding the conduct of drivers and conductors on contractor-run buses. Common grievances include drivers using mobile phones while driving, halting buses at zebra crossings, smoking, failing to update route boards, ignoring lane discipline, and disobeying traffic signals.
In response, PMPML has implemented new rules aimed at improving safety and discipline. These include a ban on mobile phone use while driving, adherence to traffic laws, no smoking on board, stopping buses only at designated bus stops, maintaining lane discipline, and avoiding overspeeding.
To ensure accountability, PMPML has encouraged commuters to report any instances of misconduct or violations through a toll-free helpline at 020-24545454. Additionally, passengers are urged to share evidence such as photos or videos on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook. They should include details like the bus number, route, and time of the incident for prompt action.
These measures are part of PMPML’s efforts to restore commuter trust, ensure safety, and improve the overall quality of its public transport services. The administration has stressed that bus drivers and conductors must strictly adhere to the guidelines to avoid penalties and maintain high professional standards.
