Pune: Traffic Violations in Hadapsar Lead to Chaos and Accidents, Citizens Demand Action
Hadapsar, 30th November 2024: The growing menace of vehicles driving in the opposite direction on main and internal roads in the Hadapsar area has become a significant cause of traffic congestion and accidents. Despite a directive from the Commissioner of Police to take strict action against such violators, the lack of enforcement by the Traffic Police has allowed the problem to worsen.
Pedestrians in Hadapsar now face increasing risks as reckless drivers create unsafe conditions on roads. Law-abiding motorists are also in danger, with many frustrated by the lack of action. Although rules were introduced to confiscate vehicles of offenders for six months, the implementation of these measures appears to have waned after an initial crackdown.
Over the past month, nearly 900 vehicles have been penalised for driving in the wrong direction, and police personnel have been deployed during rush hours to prevent mishaps. However, violations persist, with chaotic scenes reported at major traffic junctions.
Two recent accidents on Saswad Road near Magarpatta Chowk and Satavwadi in Gondhalenagar highlight the severity of the issue. Roads near the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Vegetable Market, where one-way traffic is routinely ignored, have become hotspots for violations, especially during peak hours. The situation is aggravated by a nearby rickshaw stand, adding to the congestion.
Similar issues plague other areas, including Handewadi Road, Magarpatta South Gate Chowk, and Mohammed Wadi roads. Vehicles coming from Bankar Kridangan towards Magarpatta South Gate Chowk frequently violate traffic rules, causing bottlenecks. At Magarpatta Chowk and Chandramauleshwar Mahadev Temple, vehicles speeding in the wrong direction have led to accidents, sparking public outrage.
Citizens are demanding immediate and consistent action to discipline unruly drivers and enforce traffic laws. Without sustained enforcement, roads in Hadapsar remain hazardous for both drivers and pedestrians.
Prominent Areas Affected by Wrong-Way Driving:
Syed Nagar, Handewadi Road, Both One-Way Roads near Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Vegetable Market, Magarpatta Chowk, Magarpatta South Gate Chowk, Raskar Chowk near Mundhwa Railway Flyover, Saswad Road at Satavwadi-Gondhalenagar, Rukari Pump on Solapur Road, Joyville, Shewalwadi Phata Chowk, and the road in front of the Anasaheb Magar Divisional Market Committee.
Citizens and commuters are urging authorities to take immediate steps to restore order and ensure road safety in the area.
