Pune, 30th November 2024: In line with the vehicle scrappage policy introduced in January 2021, 1,265 government vehicles in Pune city and district that have exceeded 15 years of service will be scrapped by 31st December this year. The initiative, aimed at phasing out ageing vehicles owned by central and state government departments, is being streamlined through dedicated measures by the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO).

Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale announced that a specialised cell will be established at the Pune RTO to expedite and simplify the scrapping process. A centralised portal has also been developed for government departments to register and process their vehicles for scrapping.

“All concerned government departments are required to upload the details of their outdated vehicles on the portal. Based on this information, the scrapping procedure will be initiated,” Bhosale stated.

For departments with a large number of vehicles earmarked for scrapping, a unique login ID for the MSTC portal will be provided, ensuring a smoother and faster process. This will help eliminate delays and make the initiative more efficient.

The scrapping of outdated government vehicles aligns with the broader goals of reducing emissions, improving road safety, and promoting the use of newer, more eco-friendly vehicles.
