Congress MLA Vikas Thakre Calls for Ballot-Based Elections and Highlights Ambazari Garden Redevelopment Issues
Nagpur, 27th December 2024: In an exclusive interview with Tikam Shekhawat, Consulting Editor of Punekar News, Vikas Thakre, Nagpur City Congress President and sitting MLA of the Nagpur West constituency, delved into key issues, including the reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the redevelopment of Ambazari Garden, and his political journey.
Thakre expressed concerns about the public’s growing skepticism regarding EVMs, though he admitted that he is not accusing ECI for recent Elections, However He urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider a return to ballot paper voting to address doubts and restore faith in the electoral process.
Highlighting the Ambazari Garden redevelopment, Thakre criticized the delay in fulfilling former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s promise of developing the site along with a Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Cultural Centre. He condemned the earlier erasure of the monument by Garuda Amusement Park Company, which holds the lease on the 44-acre land. Thakre called for immediate action to honor the commitment, emphasizing the site’s cultural and historical importance to Nagpur.
The conversation also touched on the recent Vidhan Sabha elections, during which Thakre shared his campaign experiences and challenges. He spoke candidly about his warm relationships with various Political Leaders across various parties, including Devendra Fadnavis, against whom he had contested his first election as a corporator.
