Wakad, 2nd January 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested a paan shop operator for selling ganja (marijuana) from his establishment. The action was taken by the Detection Branch (DB) of Wakad Police Station within their jurisdiction. Five kilograms and one hundred grams of ganja, worth ₹2.55 lakh, have been seized from the accused.

The arrested ganja seller has been identified as Puneet Kumar Vivek Shetty. According to the police, in anticipation of the New Year celebrations, they had intensified surveillance on drug dealers. The police were aware that drug consumption often increased during this period. Acting on information that Puneet Kumar was selling ganja from his Sai Shri Paan Shop, the Wakad Police conducted a raid and apprehended the suspect.

A case has been registered against Puneet Kumar under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 (NDPS). The accused is reportedly a notorious history-sheeter with multiple cases registered against him: two at Wakad, one at Hinjawadi, and one at Dattawadi (Parvati) Police Stations.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of Pimpri Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vishal Gaikwad, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wakad Division) Sunil Kurade. The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar, included Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Chavan, Police Sub Inspectors Aniruddha Sawarde and Vibhishan Kanherkar, and Police Constables Maruti Tarange, Yusuf Beg, Chandu Gire, Sandeep Gawari, Namdev Wadekar, Vijay Ghadage, Vijay Bhusare, Ramchandra Talpe, Tatyasaheb Shinde, Saudagar Lamture, Dnyandev Zende, and Kharade.
