Kidnapped Tamil Nadu Man En Route To Mumbai Rescued By Pune Police

Pune, 11th January 2025: A Tamil Nadu man en route to Mumbai was kidnapped by a gang, but Pune Police have successfully rescued him and arrested six accused. The kidnapping was motivated by a past financial transaction. The accused had taken the victim to a hotel where they were beating him. The Crime Branch’s Anti Dacoity Cell and Vehicle Theft 2 unit carried out this operation.

The Anti Dacoity Cell and Vehicle Theft 2 unit have arrested Mohammad Farman Meherbad (27, from Uttar Pradesh), Arjun Kumar Shiv Kumar (28, from Uttar Pradesh), Devendra Sunil Albhar (25, from Ahilyanagar), Ankit Arjun Adagale (25, from Mumbai), Priyank Devendra Rana (33, from Uttarakhand), and Avinash Dattatraya Kadam (43, from Shikrapur).

A case has been registered against the accused for wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, common intention, and criminal intimidation.

According to police reports, a 35-year-old man had left Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu for Mumbai on 6th January. However, on 9th January, he called his family and informed them that he had been kidnapped, was being beaten, and had been taken to a hotel. Pune Police’s Crime Branch initiated an investigation.

The Anti Dacoity Cell and Vehicle Theft 2 unit searched areas including Phursungi, Kunjirwadi, Shewalwadi, and Shikrapur Nagar Road. They finally found the victim safe on January 10th and arrested all the accused. The kidnapping was reportedly due to a financial matter. The Hadapsar Police Station is conducting further investigation into the case.

This operation was carried out under the guidance of Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 2) Rajendra Mulik. The teams were led by Police Inspectors Vijay Kumbhar, Sandeepan Pawar, Yuvraj Hande, and Wahid Pathan.
