Pune, 27th January 2025: In response to the rise in suspected and confirmed cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) in Pune, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has dispatched a high-level multi-disciplinary team to assist Maharashtra’s health authorities in implementing public health measures and managing the situation.

The team, comprising seven experts, includes specialists from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru, the Regional Office of Health and Family Welfare, and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune. While three experts from NIV Pune were already working with local authorities, the central team has now been expanded for enhanced support.

The Union Health Ministry is actively monitoring developments, maintaining communication with the state, and taking proactive measures to address the situation effectively.
