Pune, 27th January 2025: In a significant relief for patients battling Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced free treatment at its Kamala Nehru Hospital and financial aid for those seeking care at private hospitals. Under the Urban Poor Scheme, patients treated in private hospitals will receive assistance of up to ₹2 lakh, while the expensive ‘Immunoglobulin’ injection will be made available free of cost for all GBS patients.

The initiative was unveiled by Pune MP and Union Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol, who held discussions with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Health Chief Dr. Nina Borade, and other senior officials in light of the increasing GBS cases in the city. Recognizing the high cost of GBS treatment, Mohol proposed financial support for affected residents, which was subsequently approved by the Municipal Commissioner.

“GBS treatment will now be provided free of cost at Kamala Nehru Hospital. Additionally, patients in private hospitals will receive financial assistance up to ₹2 lakh under the Urban Poor Scheme, and ‘Immunoglobulin’ injections will be available free of charge,” Mohol announced.

Highlighting the importance of this decision, Mohol added, “The rise in GBS cases in Pune is concerning, and the cost of treatment can be overwhelming. These measures will provide much-needed relief to patients and their families.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation has also assured that it is taking precautionary steps to address the situation while supporting patients with this financial relief.
