Pune: Worker Falls to Death During PCMC Anti-Encroachment Drive in Chikhali Kudalwadi

Chikhali, 11th February 2025: A worker died in Kudalwadi yesterday after falling from a height while voluntarily removing tin sheets from a godown during an anti-encroachment drive. The incident occurred as the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was conducting an anti-encroachment operation in the area.

The deceased worker has been identified as Avdesh Yadav, 52, originally from Uttar Pradesh but currently residing in Kudalwadi. Yadav was employed at Shriram Godown, owned by Akram Mohammad Ali Chaudhary in Kudalwadi.

Yadav climbed onto the roof to remove tin sheets in an attempt to minimize damage during the PCMC’s operation. One of the sheets, which had a plastic skylight, was covered in dust. Mistaking it for a sturdy sheet, Yadav stepped on it and fell 20 feet, landing on his head. He was rushed to the PCMC hospital but was declared dead before treatment could begin.

The anti-encroachment drive, which began two days ago, has resulted in the demolition of approximately 1,500 structures across 250 acres in Kudalwadi, Jadhavwadi, and surrounding areas. The PCMC has sealed all roads leading to Kudalwadi and restricted entry to outsiders.
