‘Make India Great Again’? Trump and Modi Reinforce Strategic Partnership
Mumbai, 14th February 2025: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the United States for the first time after the Presidential Elections and Trump’s triumph in the White House.
The 2-day visit had a lot on its itinerary, mainly focusing on strengthening the strategic, economic, and political ties between the two democracies.
Trump’s video and gesture for Modi are talked about globally, and the media calls it a ‘bromance’ considering the US-India relationship to date and further beneficiary developments.
Trade and Tariffs were the key highlights of the discussion between the two, emphasizing the import taxes imposed by other countries on the US goods and vice versa. Defense takes a major toll on discussion as it clarifies and notices India’s plans to buy US defense equipment, including advanced F-35 fighter jets.
Covering the significant grounds of defense, the cultural and political agenda also reflected crystal clear with their adaptation of agenda and political parallels where Trump’s famous slogan ‘Make America Great Again’ or ‘MIGA’ and adaptation that led to ‘Make India Great Again,’ the countries have a mutual willingness to continue with positive ties in terms of defense and energy.
Trump announced the extradition of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India, stating that he “will face justice.” The announcement came during a joint press conference following Modi and Trump’s bilateral meeting. Last month, the US State Department confirmed that it was assessing the next steps in Rana’s extradition.
Ahead of his meeting with Trump, Modi also discussed with US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, billionaire Elon Musk, and Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy. His two-day visit to Washington, DC, began on Wednesday evening (Thursday morning India time) after concluding his trip to France.
