Pulwama Attack: Nation Remembers The Sacrifice Of CRPF Jawans On Sixth Anniversary

Pulwama, 14th February 2025: Today marks six years since the devastating Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF soldiers on 14th February 2019. The tragedy unfolded when a convoy of 78 CRPF buses carrying around 2,500 soldiers was moving along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Near Goripora in Awantipora, a vehicle packed with explosives rammed into one of the buses, triggering a massive explosion.

The blast was so intense that it left the soldiers’ bodies unrecognizable. As the smoke settled, terrorists opened fire on the convoy, prompting an immediate counterattack by the security forces. However, the attackers managed to flee before reinforcements arrived. The scene at the attack site was described as harrowing, with rescue teams rushing to evacuate the injured and transport them to the Army base hospital.

Jaish-e-Mohammed, a Pakistan-based terrorist organization, claimed responsibility for the attack. The suicide bomber was later identified as 22-year-old Adil Ahmed Dar, who had joined the militant ranks two years before the attack. His family last saw him in March 2018, when he left home on a bicycle and never returned. Reports indicate that he had been detained multiple times by security forces but was released after warnings.

The Pulwama attack led to nationwide outrage, with citizens demanding a strong response. Twelve days later, on 26th February 2019, the Indian Air Force carried out a retaliatory airstrike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camp in Balakot, Pakistan. The pre-dawn operation, known as the Balakot airstrike, reportedly neutralized a significant number of terrorists.

In the aftermath of the attack, security forces intensified their counter-terrorism operations. On 18th February 2019, Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Kamran, believed to be the mastermind behind the Pulwama attack, was killed in a military operation. The armed forces remained vigilant, conducting extensive search operations across the region to eliminate remaining threats.
