Lohgaon, 17th February 2025: A postgraduate student in Lohgaon was left horrified after discovering a dead mouse in a chocolate shake he had ordered online. By the time he noticed it, he had already consumed the entire drink. Shocked and concerned for his health, he rushed to a hospital, where doctors examined him and found no immediate health complications, according to the Airport Police.

Assistant Inspector Vijay Chandan of the Airport Police stated, “The student had finished the shake when he noticed the dead mouse inside the container. Alarmed, he immediately sought medical attention.”

Following the incident, the student and his friend called the café from which the shake had been ordered. However, their complaints were allegedly dismissed. “When the café owner refused to accept responsibility, they approached us. We registered their complaint and summoned the café owner for questioning,” Chandan added.

During the initial probe, police found injury marks on the mouse, suggesting that it might have been blended into the shake. “The mouse had visible cuts, leading us to suspect that it may have accidentally fallen into the blender and was processed along with the ingredients,” Chandan said.

Senior Inspector Ajay Sankeshwari confirmed that the shake had been ordered via a food delivery app as a Valentine’s Day gift from the student’s friend. “The student, who is pursuing a management degree while working at a private firm, drank the shake upon returning to his flat. After discovering the contaminant, he and his friend lodged a formal complaint,” Sankeshwari explained.

Authorities have booked the café owner under relevant sections related to endangering human life and personal safety. Further investigation is underway to determine whether negligence played a role in the contamination.

This is not the first case of contaminated food shocking consumers. Last year, police in Mumbai traced a severed human fingertip found in an ice cream tub to a manufacturing unit in Indapur, Pune. In another incident the previous year, a Mumbai restaurant faced legal action after two diners claimed to have found a rat in their meal. However, the restaurant’s legal team later argued that the customers had finished their food and were attempting to extort money by making false claims.
