Shivajinagar, 19th February 2025: A shocking incident unfolded on Senapati Bapat Road when a policeman returning home from duty was brutally attacked by a drunken gang. The cop had attempted to intervene as the gang created a ruckus, but instead, they turned violent and assaulted him.

Despite approaching the Chatushrungi Police Station immediately after the attack, the injured policeman faced reluctance from the duty officer in registering his complaint. However, when Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar learned of the incident, he intervened, ordering the immediate registration of a case and the arrest of the accused. Following his directive, three individuals were taken into custody, and a case was registered.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rupesh Manjrekar, Aniket Ghodke, and Abhijit Dongre. The complaint was filed by Police Naik Chandrakant Jadhav (42), a resident of Ramoshiwadi, behind Ratna Hospital, Senapati Bapat Road. Jadhav, who is posted at Sahakarnagar Police Station, was on his way home on Thursday night when he encountered the accused.

Manjrekar, Ghodke, Dongre, and their accomplice were allegedly drinking inside an autorickshaw near Ratna Hospital and creating a public nuisance. As Jadhav passed by on his bike, he attempted to disperse them, leading to a heated argument. The gang began abusing Jadhav and taunted him, saying, “We know you’re a policeman. Don’t act too smart.”

Moments later, they launched a physical attack, striking Jadhav with a stone. When he tried to document the incident using his mobile phone, the accused snatched it from him. Jadhav managed to escape and reached Chatushrungi Police Station to file a complaint. However, the on-duty officer dismissed his request, telling him to return the next day. He was then sent to Sassoon Hospital for medical treatment.

The following day, when Jadhav returned to file his complaint, he was again turned away, as the police station was occupied with preparations for a cultural event. Additionally, Jadhav was allegedly pressured by an individual with political connections to drop the complaint.

Frustrated by the inaction, Jadhav escalated the matter to senior officers. The incident eventually reached Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, who took serious note of the attack on a police officer. On his orders, a case was finally registered, and the accused were arrested.
