Pune to Get Four Upgraded Railway Stations and Largest Terminal at Uruli Kanchan: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw
Pune, 20th March 2025: Addressing longstanding demands for more long-distance trains from Pune, the Union Ministry of Railways has announced a major infrastructure boost. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, during a Parliament session on Wednesday (March 19), revealed plans to develop four railway stations in Pune and establish the largest terminal at Uruli Kanchan.
During the session, several Members of Parliament urged the Railway Minister to introduce additional long-distance trains, considering Pune’s rapid growth and its increasing connectivity needs. Responding to the demand, Vaishnaw stated, “Pune is an educational hub witnessing rapid development. There is a significant demand for trains from states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar to Pune. To address this, we are developing four railway stations to accommodate more trains.”

The minister also provided an update on ongoing railway infrastructure projects in Pune. “Work is progressing on Hadapsar Terminal and the redevelopment of Shivajinagar Railway Station. Additionally, a large terminal is being set up at Uruli Kanchan,” he said.
According to Vaishnaw, Pune Railway Station will continue to handle train arrivals, but maintenance and repair activities will be shifted to the Uruli Kanchan terminal. This move is expected to enhance train operations, increase the number of services, and benefit passengers without disrupting Pune Railway Station’s ongoing development.
The announcement comes as a significant relief for Pune’s railway commuters, who have long sought better connectivity and infrastructure to meet the city’s growing transportation demands.
