Pune: PMC Generates Over Rs 4,955 Crore In Revenue; Property Tax And Construction Permits Drive Growth
Pune, 1st April 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reported significant revenue generation from its Property Tax and Construction Departments. The Construction Department contributed ₹2,600 crore, while the Property Tax Department added ₹2,355 crore to the municipal treasury. Although the Property Tax Department fell short of its budgeted target, it still managed to collect over ₹100 crore more than the previous financial year.
PMC had prioritized revenue growth across multiple departments, including Property Tax and Construction. Special teams, including women’s teams and band squads, were deployed to ensure maximum property tax collection. Additionally, technical issues delaying payments were promptly resolved to encourage taxpayers to clear their dues.
Despite concerns over consecutive public holidays potentially disrupting collections, the PMC kept its customer service centers operational from 28th March to 31st March. Online payment facilities were also made available, with technical support to prevent transaction failures.
By 31st March 2025, the Property Tax Department collected ₹31.89 crore in a single day. For the financial year from 1st April 2024, to 31st March 2025, the total property tax collection stood at ₹2,355.09 crore, compared to ₹2,249.99 crore in the previous year. This marks an increase of over ₹100 crore. However, the department was unable to meet its budgeted target of ₹2,700 crore. The shortfall was attributed to state government orders restricting action against defaulters in newly incorporated villages due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The Construction Department granted permits for 3,359 new buildings in the 2024-25 financial year. The department exceeded its revenue target of ₹2,492 crore, collecting ₹2,601.88 crore. In comparison, the department generated ₹2,407 crore in the previous financial year, also surpassing its target.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare highlighted Pune’s growing appeal as an educational, employment, and residential hub. With an influx of professionals due to IT and other industries, the demand for housing and commercial spaces has risen. Infrastructure improvements, including better public transportation, have further contributed to this trend. Efficient permit processes in the Construction Department have ensured smooth revenue generation, reflecting the city’s expanding real estate sector.
