Pune: 18-Month-Old Child Crushed to Death by Tanker in Warje; Driver Arrested, Case Against Owner
Warje, 6th April 2025: In a heartbreaking incident, an 18-month-old child died after being crushed under the rear wheels of a water tanker in the Ganpati Matha area of Warje on Saturday evening. The tanker driver has been arrested, and a case has been registered against the tanker owner.
The deceased has been identified as Adhokshak Mahesh Vahale, grandson of Chhaya Vahale, a resident of the same locality. The child was playing outside his house when the incident occurred around 7:30 PM.
Tanker Was Reversing When Tragedy Struck
According to the Warje Malwadi Police, the tanker had arrived to fill a water tank in a nearby building. While reversing the vehicle, the driver failed to notice the child playing near the rear wheels, leading to the fatal accident. The child died on the spot.
Following the incident, angry local residents thrashed the driver and handed him over to the police. Senior Police Inspector Vishwajit Kaigade visited the spot immediately after being informed.
Driver Arrested, Owner Booked
The arrested driver has been identified as Sunny Pyare Baraskar (33), currently residing near Vadacha Ganpati Mandir, Dattawadi. He hails from Bhaiyawadi, Sahapur, District Betul, Madhya Pradesh.
A case has also been registered against the tanker owner based on a complaint filed by Satish Vasant Tikare (65), a resident of Tikare Heights in Ganpati Matha, Warje.
The investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Narle.
