Pune: Standing Committee Chairman Meets CM To Seeks Additional 13 TMC Water for City Till Monsoon
Pune, 6th November 2026: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale has urged chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to provide the city with an additional 13 TMC of water between November 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027, until the onset of the next monsoon. He has also demanded that water released from dams through canals and rivers during the monsoon be excluded from the city’s annual water quota.
Bhimale met Fadnavis in Pune on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum outlining the demands.
At a meeting of the Pune district canal committee held on October 29, a water quota of 13.2 TMC was approved for the city for the period between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027. However, reports stated that the quota would cover the entire year, including the monsoon period.
Of the approved quota, 6.35 TMC had already been consumed by the end of October, leaving only 7.15 TMC for the remaining eight months until June 2027.
With Pune’s population crossing 70 lakh, the city requires around 1.5 TMC of water every month. Even with a 10% water cut in force, the city would need approximately 12 TMC over the next eight months.
Bhimale said the remaining allocation was likely to prove inadequate to meet the city’s requirements and urged the chief minister to direct the authorities to provide 13 TMC of water separately until the next monsoon.
