Lohgaon Hottest in Pune at 42.2°C as April Heat Intensifies Across Maharashtra
Pune, 8th April 2025: The month of April has kicked off with sweltering heat across Maharashtra, with multiple regions recording maximum temperatures well above the 40°C mark. Pune city saw its first major spike of the season on Monday as all three observatories crossed the 40°C threshold — a clear signal that summer has arrived with full force.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Lohgaon emerged as the hottest part of Pune, touching 42.2°C, overtaking the previous local high of 41.4°C recorded at Pashan over the weekend. Pashan followed closely on Monday with 40.7°C, while Shivajinagar registered 40.2°C, marking its first breach of 40°C this season — 2.8°C above the normal average.
An IMD official attributed the surge in temperatures to dry conditions and cloudless skies. “The absence of cloud cover and the prevailing dry atmosphere have amplified the heat. This trend is likely to persist for the next few days,” the official warned.
The heatwave conditions were not restricted to Pune. Akola was the hottest city in the state, registering a blistering 44.2°C. Several cities in Vidarbha also faced extreme heat, with Brahmapuri at 43.8°C and both Amravati and Chandrapur hitting 43.6°C. Nagpur (42.4°C), Wardha (42°C), and Yavatmal (42°C) also reported scorching daytime temperatures.
Cities in northern Maharashtra saw a similar spike. Jalgaon reached 42.5°C, while Solapur hit 42°C. Nashik, which experienced relatively cooler weather just a week ago, recorded a sharp 6.9°C rise to hit 40.3°C on Monday — its highest this season.
Malegaon saw its temperature increase from 40.8°C on Sunday to 41.6°C on Monday. Dhule touched 42°C, up from 40.5°C the previous day. The IMD has issued alerts for hot and humid conditions in parts of Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar districts for the next two days.
Meanwhile, Marathwada wasn’t spared either. Parbhani (42.1°C), Beed (41.9°C), and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (41°C) all reported above-average temperatures, with deviations ranging from 2.3°C to 3.8°C.
The IMD continues to advise residents to limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take protective measures as the state faces a prolonged period of high temperatures.
