Pune, 8th April 2025: In the wake of the tragic death of Tanisha Bhise, allegedly due to delayed treatment at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a strong directive to all private healthcare facilities in the city. The civic body has ordered that no hospital, clinic, or nursing home within its jurisdiction should demand advance payment in emergency cases.

The notice, circulated to all private hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics under PMC limits, clearly states that patients requiring emergency care must be treated immediately, regardless of their ability to pay upfront. The PMC emphasized that life-saving treatment should never be withheld due to monetary concerns.

Tanisha Bhise’s death sparked widespread outrage after it was alleged that her family was asked to deposit ₹10 lakh before treatment could begin. She remained without treatment for over five hours at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, and was later taken to two other hospitals, eventually giving birth to twin daughters at Manipal Hospital. Sadly, she died during treatment.

A state-appointed inquiry committee has held the hospital responsible for negligence, which led to the resignation of senior doctor Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas. The Pune police are also investigating the matter and have flagged lapses in medical response.

A detailed report from the Charity Commissioner is awaited. Meanwhile, State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar has assured that strict action will be taken, stating, “No one responsible will be protected. Justice will be ensured.”
