Pune: Abortion-Related Sections Dropped in Daund’s Dead Fetus Case
Daund, 11th April 2025: In the disturbing incident from Daund, where a dead fetus and several human body parts were found in jars dumped near Gopalwadi, police have dropped the abortion-related charges due to lack of evidence suggesting illegal termination.
On March 25, a dead male fetus was discovered to be about 18–20 weeks old and accompanied by surgically removed organs like a uterus and testicles in plastic jars. Investigation revealed these belonged to Bhangale Clinic and Nursing Home, located on the Daund-Siddhatek Ashtavinayak road.
The initial charges included serious IPC sections related to illegal abortion and spreading infectious disease, but police have now confirmed the fetus was not aborted, leading to the withdrawal of Sections 89 and 90. However, the clinic now faces charges under environmental laws for improper disposal of biomedical waste.
Accordingly, Dr. Pratibha Pramod Bhangale has been served a notice for negligent handling of the fetus. Statements have been recorded from five individuals who underwent surgeries, based on labels on the jars.
Mystery Around the Fetus:
According to the reports, One major unanswered question is why the fetus (reportedly born prematurely in 2020 during the COVID-19 outbreak) was kept in the hospital for over four years without cremation, and why it was given to a scrap collector to be dumped in public. Investigations are ongoing, and DNA tests are being conducted to identify the parents. Authorities are also probing the illegal storage of human body parts without authorization.
