Pune, 25th April 2025: A shocking case of human trafficking has come to light in the city, where a 25-year-old woman from Assam was lured under the pretext of marriage and later sold for ₹5 lakh to a brothel in Budhwar Peth. The Faraskhana Police have registered a case against four individuals, including an unidentified police officer.
According to the complaint filed by the survivor, the main accused, Shafiul Abul Nasur Wahid Alam, a native of Assam, deceived her in January with the promise of marriage and brought her to Pune. Once in the city, he allegedly sold her to a brothel located in Budhwar Peth for ₹5 lakh.
The woman was reportedly threatened and coerced into prostitution by two local agents, identified as Papa Sheikh and Adhura Shiva Kamli, both residents of Budhwar Peth. In a disturbing development, a police officer known to the accused is also alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim.
The ordeal is said to have lasted for nearly four months before the woman managed to escape and file a complaint with the Faraskhana Police Station. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA), and Police Inspector Ajit Jadhav is currently leading the investigation.
