Pimpri-Chinchwad, 24th May 2025: As the investigation intensifies into the alleged dowry harassment and suspicious death of Vaishnavi Shashank Hagawane, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have frozen the financial assets of the accused family, including their bank accounts and locker, and seized a vehicle allegedly used in the crime.

With Rajendra Hagawane — the deceased’s father-in-law — and four family members currently in police custody until 28th May, investigators are operating on a war footing to trace the flow of money and assets allegedly linked to the crime.

Police sources confirmed that the Mahindra Thar SUV, reportedly used by Hagawane to evade arrest, has been seized. In addition, a letter has been issued to the Bank of Maharashtra to freeze Hagawane’s bank locker, and all associated accounts are being scrutinized.

As the probe unfolds, new financial details have surfaced. Investigators believe that Rajendra Hagawane may have deposited 51 tolas of gold — allegedly part of the dowry given by Vaishnavi’s father, Anand Kaspate — into a bank. The motive and timing of this transaction are now under close examination.

The Hagawane family, including Rajendra, his two sons, wife, and daughter, stand accused of mentally and physically harassing Vaishnavi, allegedly over dowry and doubts cast on her character after news of her pregnancy. Vaishnavi died on 16th May, and police suspect she was driven to suicide following sustained abuse.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Vishal Gaikwad told Punekar News, “Rajendra Hagawane deposited 51 tolas of gold in a bank. We are investigating the reason behind it. We have seized the Mahindra Thar used in the crime. Letters have been sent to banks to freeze his accounts and locker. The investigation is being conducted thoroughly.”

The police are also probing whether the dowry-related gold was misappropriated or hidden to obstruct the investigation. The case continues to stir public outrage as more details emerge about the alleged systemic abuse that led to Vaishnavi’s death.
