Now Pune Police Traffic App Empowers Citizens to Report Rule Breakers, Road Hazards
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 14th June 2025: In a major step toward addressing the city’s chronic traffic woes, Pune Police has launched the Pune Police Traffic App , PTP App, enabling citizens to directly report traffic violations and road obstructions through their smartphones. The initiative was formally launched by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today in Pune, marking a technological leap in citizen-driven traffic enforcement.
The app was developed under the leadership of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar with joint efforts from Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Police Commissioner (East) Manoj Patil, and DCP Traffic Amol Zende, in collaboration with private IT experts Nitin Kane and Nitin Vaidya.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “Traffic congestion, accidents, and vehicular pollution are among the biggest challenges faced by Punekars today. The app empowers responsible citizens to help us enforce the rules and keep the roads safer.”
Kumar added that the app introduces the concept of “Civilian Report”—a vigilant citizen who can act as the eyes and ears of the traffic police. Importantly, only citizens whose vehicles do not have pending challans will be eligible to report violations, ensuring rule-abiding participants are part of this initiative.
Key Features of the Pune Police Traffic App:
Through the app, citizens can now report violations such as:
- Parking or driving on footpaths
- Triple seat riding
- Use of mobile phones while driving
- Black film or fancy number plates
- Entry of heavy vehicles in restricted zones
- Driving in wrong direction or in no-entry zones
In addition to violations, users can alert authorities to real-time issues causing traffic congestion or safety hazards, including:
- Accidents
- Vehicle breakdowns
- Potholes
- Waterlogging or oil spills
- Fallen trees
- Abandoned vehicles
Citizens can upload photos or videos of violations or obstructions, provided the vehicle’s number plate is clearly visible. Each complaint will be verified within 48 hours, and upon confirmation, digital challans will be issued by the traffic police.
Manoj Patil, Additional Police Commissioner (East), stated, “This initiative not only brings transparency but creates a shared sense of responsibility. Every verified report will be acted upon quickly, and the identity of citizens who report violations will be strictly protected.”
The app is designed to ensure seamless coordination between the traffic police control room and local municipal bodies for swift resolution of road-related issues.
“The goal is to create smoother and safer roads by involving citizens directly,” Patil added. “We want people to feel that they are not just bystanders but active contributors to road safety in Pune.”

With over 100 traffic-related deaths reported in Pune every year and mounting complaints about congestion, the app is seen as a timely intervention.
Pune Police also emphasized that citizen privacy will be fully protected, and no personal data will be disclosed or misused.
