Major Roads in Pune to Remain Closed on June 20 for Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram Palkhi Processions

Pune, 19th June 2025: In view of the grand arrival of the palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj on Friday, June 20, the Pune City Police have announced major traffic restrictions and road closures across the city. The processions, which attract thousands of Warkaris (devotees), will lead to the closure of 26 key roads from 8 am to midnight on Friday.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar appealed to commuters to avoid the core city areas and use alternative routes. He assured that tight security arrangements and traffic planning have been made to manage the large crowd expected during the palkhi events.

“We request citizens to cooperate. Strict security will be maintained and traffic restrictions are necessary to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the palkhi sohla,” said Commissioner Kumar.
Roads Closed on June 20 (Friday):
Range Hill Chowk to Sancheti Chowk (Ganeshkhind Road)
Khandojibaba Chowk to Veer Chapekar Chowk (Gokhale and Ferguson Road)
Gadgil Putla Chowk to S. G. Barve Chowk (Chhatrapati Shivaji Road)
Apte Road, Gokhale Road to Tilak Road
Laxmi Road (Tilak Chowk to Sant Kabir Chowk)
Shanipar Chowk to Seva Sadan Chowk
Nehru Chowk to Sonya Maruti Chowk
Devjibaba Chowk to Hamjekhan Chowk (Ganesh Road)
Ramoshi Gate to Palkhi Vithoba Mandir (Nehru Road)
Sant Kabir Chowk to Chacha Halwai Chowk
Further, roads in Nana-Bhavani Peth will also be closed once the palkhi reaches its halting point. As the devotees gather around Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple and Shaniwar Wada, Chhatrapati Shivaji Road and Laxmi Road (Sant Kabir Chowk to Belbag Chowk) will remain closed from June 20 to June 22, 11 am.
Key Arrangements and Safety Measures:
6,500 police personnel deployed across the city
CCTV surveillance along the palkhi route
Special arrangements to prevent thefts and untoward incidents
Dindi vehicles to be regulated and moved forward as per plan
Priority given to Warkari and public safety
Senior officers including Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Pankaj Deshmukh, DCP (Traffic) Amol Zende, Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare, and PI (Traffic Planning) Sunil Gawli were also present at the briefing.
