Pune, 23rd June 2025: Taking advantage of a brief pause in monsoon rains, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ramped up road repair and maintenance efforts across the city. The civic body is deploying multiple repair techniques to fix potholes and damaged stretches, especially in areas impacted by waterlogging and early rainfall damage.

According to PMC’s Road Department, of the 3,377 potholes identified citywide, 3,331 have already been repaired, with only 46 remaining. This rapid response comes in the wake of widespread road damage caused by intense early monsoon showers and clogged stormwater drains.

Despite pre-monsoon preparations, heavy rains in early June washed away much of the groundwork. Media reports and citizen complaints highlighting deteriorating road conditions prompted the civic administration to act swiftly. With hot asphalt now available from the PMC’s asphalt plant, repairs have resumed at full pace in both central and suburban areas.

Five-Pronged Repair Strategy
PMC has adopted five different methods for road repair, depending on material availability and site-specific conditions:

Hot Asphalt – Used wherever dry conditions permit.
Cold Bag Mixes – Deployed in areas where hot mix is not feasible.
Chemical and Concrete Repairs – For long-lasting patchwork.
Paver Blocks with Gravel/Concrete Fill – Ideal for deep potholes and poorly drained roads, such as the Katraj-Kondhwa stretch.
Traditional Patchwork – Used for especially deep or hazardous potholes.

Additional Maintenance Efforts
Beyond potholes, the Road Department has also:
Repaired 388 roadside chambers
Resolved 125 water-logging hotspots

Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of PMC’s Road Department, stated, “Despite challenges in procuring hot asphalt during the rainy season, we’ve managed to repair over 3,000 potholes. We’re also using paver blocks and concrete solutions where required. The work will continue as long as dry conditions persist.”

The civic body has appealed to residents to cooperate with ongoing repair efforts and has assured continued work to ensure safer roads throughout the monsoon season.
