Pune: Hinjawadi IT Professionals Demand Merger with Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Amid Severe Infrastructure Crisis
Hinjawadi, 27th June 2025: Hinjawadi, Pune’s prominent IT hub, is witnessing a surge in civic activism as over 22,000 IT professionals have joined an online petition demanding the merger of Hinjawadi Gram Panchayat with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The campaign, driven by mounting frustration over chronic traffic congestion, poor road conditions, inadequate drainage, and lack of basic amenities, reflects growing discontent among residents and employees in the area.
Despite being home to hundreds of IT companies and a large tax-paying population, Hinjawadi continues to grapple with substandard infrastructure. Recent heavy rains turned main roads into virtual rivers, forcing employees to wade through waterlogged streets and raising fears that global companies may consider relocating if conditions do not improve. Persistent issues such as non-motorable roads, encroached footpaths, insufficient public transport, and frequent power outages have plagued the area for years, with little action from local authorities.
IT professionals argue that the Gram Panchayat lacks the capacity to manage development for Hinjawadi’s rapidly growing population and that only incorporation into PCMC can ensure comprehensive urban planning and delivery of essential services. Local residents and former Gram Panchayat members have echoed this demand, expressing support for the merger as the only viable solution for the region’s infrastructural woes.
Protesters have called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to personally inspect the area and take decisive action. IT professionals plan to meet with the chief minister soon, emphasizing that despite their significant tax contributions, they remain deprived of basic civic amenities. The outcome of this demand is now closely watched by the tech community and local stakeholders, as the future of Hinjawadi’s IT ecosystem may hinge on the government’s response.
