19-Year-Old Student Dies After Skidding on Waterlogged Road, Run Over by Truck in Pune
Vadgaon, 28th June 2025: An accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old college student in Pune’s Vadgaon Budruk on Thursday afternoon, after she fell from her moped while trying to avoid a water-filled stretch on Ganesh Colony Road and was fatally run over by a truck.
The deceased, identified as Saee Bhagwat, a final-year student at a city college, was returning home around 1:30 PM when the mishap occurred.
According to police, she lost control of her two-wheeler near a speed breaker after maneuvering around a patch of drainage water. Moments later, a goods truck following her ran her over.
Assistant Inspector Sameer Kakade from Sinhagad Road Police Station explained, “The truck was moving in front of her moped initially, but it slowed down near a speed breaker. Saee overtook the truck and shifted left. While trying to avoid a waterlogged pothole, her moped skidded. She fell to the right side — unfortunately, into the path of the same truck, which had caught up behind her.”
The truck driver did not stop to help. Instead, he fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Police have seized the truck and launched a manhunt for the absconding driver.
“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for causing death by negligence,” said Inspector Kakade. “The complaint was lodged by Saee’s mother, Deepshri Bhagwat. The truck will be examined by RTO experts and we are also tracing the vehicle owner.”
Saee, a resident of Bhansali Campus near the Wadgaon police chowky, was known for her passion for theatre and animals. Her maternal uncle, Amey Ghate, shared, “Saee was deeply involved in the performing arts. She had participated in competitions like Purushottam Karandak and Firodiya Karandak and also acted in commercial plays. Off stage, she was a kind soul who loved animals—she often fed and cared for stray dogs and cats.”
Her sudden death has left her family and friends in deep shock. Saee’s mother is a teacher at a junior college in Erandwane, while her father, a doctorate holder, works in the pharmaceutical sector.
A preliminary postmortem conducted at Sassoon General Hospital confirmed that head injuries were the cause of her death.
