PMC Urges Citizens to Ignore Rumors on Ward Redrawing, Assures Transparent Process
Pune, 28th June 2025: In line with the Supreme Court’s order to hold overdue municipal elections across Maharashtra within four months, the state government has begun election preparations. As part of this, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started the process of delimiting wards.
At present, PMC is verifying population data from the Census Department, alongside conducting on-ground surveys and enumerator checks. Officials clarified that the final ward boundaries have not yet been decided.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divate addressed concerns raised on social media and by some political groups, who have alleged that the new boundaries have been politically influenced and finalized. Divate dismissed these claims, confirming that the process is ongoing and confidential.
He explained that once a draft ward structure is ready, it will be formally published, allowing citizens to submit objections or suggestions. Public hearings will then be conducted before the final ward boundaries are notified.
“The public should not believe rumors or unverified posts on social media,” Divate emphasized, urging citizens to rely only on official information posted on the PMC’s website.
Following the expiration of corporators’ terms, municipal commissioners are currently functioning as administrators and handling civic duties until the elections are held.
