Pune, 1st July 2025: Starting today, passengers booking MSRTC bus tickets in advance for journeys longer than 150 kilometres will receive a 15% discount on fares. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) announced the scheme to encourage early planning and boost ridership, especially on medium and long-distance routes.

The offer is valid year-round, except during Diwali and the summer holiday rush, and applies to all bus categories, including premium services like the e-Shivneri. However, concessionary ticket holders will not be eligible for the discount.

“Book Early, Save More,” Says Transport Minister
Announcing the initiative, State Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said the move aims to benefit regular commuters while improving operational efficiency.
“We want to make state transport more attractive and economical for passengers. Those travelling on premium routes, such as Pune to Mumbai on e-Shivneri buses, will gain the most from this discount. Planning ahead not only saves money but also allows MSRTC to manage schedules and capacity more effectively,” Sarnaik stated.

He added that the scheme was first proposed during MSRTC’s 77th Foundation Day on June 1, as part of broader efforts to modernize and make public transport more competitive.

Discount Applies to Key Festivals, Not Special Services
The 15% discount will also be applicable during upcoming festivals such as Ashadhi Ekadashi and Ganesh Chaturthi, both of which typically see a surge in long-distance travel. Passengers heading to Pandharpur or Konkan for these occasions can benefit — provided they book regular buses in advance.

“Many people travel home during Ganpati and Ashadhi Ekadashi. By booking regular buses in advance, they can now save on travel costs,” said Sarnaik. “However, the discount does not apply to special or additional buses deployed during peak festive seasons.”

Passengers Welcome the Relief
Regular commuters have welcomed the decision, especially those who frequently travel between Pune and Mumbai.
“This is a welcome move,” said Indra Kumar Shinde, a software engineer based in Pune. “I travel to Mumbai at least twice a week. The e-Shivneri service is excellent, but it can get expensive. This discount eases the burden and encourages disciplined travel planning. I’ve already started booking my trips in advance to make full use of it.”

Where and How to Avail the Discount
Passengers can claim the discount by booking tickets through:
MSRTC’s official website: npublic.msrtcors.com
Any official MSRTC ticket booking counter
The ‘MSRTC Bus Reservation’ mobile app
The state hopes that this incentive will promote greater use of public transportation, reduce last-minute rush during festivals, and ease financial pressure on frequent travellers.
