Pune, 3rd July 2025: In the wake of the Kundmala tragedy where the collapse of an iron bridge claimed four lives and left several injured, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has ordered a comprehensive structural audit of all bridges and related infrastructure within ten days.

The directive mandates that all old bridges, roads, railway bridges, hoardings, and establishments undergo structural audits. These audits must be conducted by certified experts or organizations with the necessary technical qualifications. Several systems have sought the assistance of government engineering colleges to complete the process.

Collector Dudi emphasized that a seven-day deadline was initially given post the Kundmala incident and that all systems under their respective jurisdictions had complied. However, the lack of manpower caused delays. “There should be no shortcomings in this process, and any negligence will be dealt with strictly,” he stated.

So far, audit reports have been submitted by Lonavala and Baramati Nagar Parishads, Railways, Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Pune Zilla Parishad, Irrigation Department, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Remaining departments have been instructed to submit their reports within the next ten days.

Dudi also made it clear that all establishments and roads must have certification from relevant expert bodies. He warned that if any mishap occurs due to structural failure after this audit, the responsible officials will be held accountable and strict action will follow.
