Pune, 3rd July 2025: As monsoon sets in and tree plantation drives gather momentum across Maharashtra, the state government has directed non-agricultural, deemed, and self-financed universities, as well as affiliated colleges, to submit detailed reports on their tree plantation and maintenance activities for the 2024–25 academic year.

In a circular, Dr. Prakash Bachhav, Joint Director of Higher Education, instructed regional joint directors to ensure compliance with these directives.

State Chief Minister has set a target of planting at least 10 crore trees by 2025. Previously, a plan to plant 50 crore trees was also implemented across the state. Against this backdrop, universities and affiliated colleges must report how many trees they have planted, the locations of these plantations, the expenditure incurred, and under which budget head the expenses were recorded.

They are also required to state whether they had sought grants from the government under the budget head created in 2019–20 for plantation and maintenance purposes, and if so, how much grant amount was requested.

Dr. Bachhav has clarified that regional joint directors should submit this information separately for their offices, universities, and both government and private colleges.
