Pune: Rape Accused Arrested Within 24 Hours by Lonavala Police

Lonavala, 18th July 2025: A rape accused has been identified and arrested by Lonavala Rural Police within 24 hours of the crime being committed. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 15th July, around 2 pm, in the Thakursai area, when the accused allegedly followed and raped the victim.

The woman lodged a complaint at the Lonavala Rural Police Station, after which the accused, identified as Balu Shirke, a resident of Maval Taluka, was traced. According to police reports, Shirke chased down the 33-year-old woman in the Thakursai village area, forcibly took her to a nearby forest, and raped her.

A case was registered with the police. CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby areas, along with information from police sources, helped identify Shirke, who was subsequently detained.

The action, carried out under the guidance of senior Pune Rural Police officials, was led by Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar (in-charge of the Local Crime Branch) and Police Inspector Dinesh Tayade (in-charge of Lonavala Rural Police Station).
