New Delhi, 22nd July 2025: Air India has completed a precautionary inspection of the fuel control switch locking systems across its Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft and confirmed that no defects or irregularities were detected.

The inspections were carried out following a preliminary report issued by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which examined a recent in-flight emergency involving an Air India aircraft near Ahmedabad.

According to the AAIB’s early findings, the incident involved both fuel cut-off switches on the aircraft being moved from the “Run” to the “Cut-Off” position within seconds of each other, which caused both engines to shut down unexpectedly during flight.

The report cited cockpit voice recordings, in which one pilot questioned the engine shutdown, while the other denied initiating the action—leading to concerns over whether the event was caused by pilot error, accidental activation, or a technical fault in the switch mechanism.

Airline Conducts Fleet-Wide Safety Checks:
As a proactive measure, Air India conducted a thorough inspection of the fuel switch systems across its entire fleet of Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft.
Following the inspection, the airline confirmed that no mechanical faults or anomalies were found in any of the aircraft examined.
