Hinjawadi Civic Issues Go Digital: Govt Officials to Face Disaster Act for Project Delays; WhatsApp Group Enables Direct Citizen Access
Reported by Varad Bhatkhande
Hinjawadi, 22nd July 2025: Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar chaired an important meeting on Tuesday, issuing directives to multiple departments to address ongoing issues in Hinjawadi. Going forward, a review will be conducted every 15 days at the divisional commissioner level to monitor progress.
He also announced the appointment of additional traffic wardens to help ease traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, including the Hinjawadi area.
To improve communication and coordination, a dedicated WhatsApp group will be created comprising representatives from all concerned departments along with members of citizens’ associations. This platform will enable residents to raise their concerns directly, ensuring quicker resolution.
The meeting, held in line with directions from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, focused on reviewing infrastructure and civic challenges in and around Hinjawadi.
It was attended by representatives of local citizen organizations in Hinjawadi, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, and representatives from PMRDA, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), District Administration, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), and other relevant departments.
This review meeting was mandated following a recent meeting between the Chief Minister and Hinjawadi residents, during which the Pune Divisional Commissioner was designated as the single-point authority for resolving the region’s issues. The Commissioner has been instructed to conduct review meetings every 15 days. Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge played a key role in initiating this process, which led to the meeting with the Chief Minister.
Key Instructions Issued by the Divisional Commissioner:
1) In case of delays in administrative work, officials must prepare an action plan at their departmental level.
2) PMRDA should provide traffic wardens as per the requirement. The Police Commissioners of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad must submit their demands accordingly.
3) If transformers or overhead wires of MSEDCL are obstructing traffic, they must be relocated.
4) Implement one-way traffic systems in areas experiencing major traffic issues.
5) Expedite land acquisition processes. Take local farmers into confidence and acquire road space accordingly.
6) Establish PMPML bus stops at appropriate and convenient locations.

During the meeting, MLA Mahesh Landge stated, “To resolve the long-standing issues of the Hinjawadi IT Park, CM Devendra Fadnavis approved the formation of a ‘Single Point Authority’. Coordination among various government departments is essential. The administration has already taken action against unauthorized structures and temporary sheds obstructing traffic, which will help clear the way for road development. The administration should also work towards providing rightful housing to homeless citizens. Furthermore, land acquisition must be expedited. There is a strong demand to formulate an action plan to enhance infrastructure facilities and streamline pending projects under the NHAI.”
