Pune: PMC Launches ‘Road Mitra’ App to Tackle Pothole Menace in Pune
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 22nd July 2025: In a tech-driven move to address the city’s growing pothole problem, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has developed a new mobile application named ‘PMC Road Mitra’, enabling citizens to report potholes directly to the civic authorities.
The app, developed by the Road Department, allows users to upload photos and videos of potholes, complete with GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude), ensuring that the exact location is identified and forwarded to the respective junior engineer for prompt action.
The initiative comes in response to widespread public frustration over the deteriorating condition of roads in Pune, especially after monsoon rains. Waterlogging, gravel dispersal, and poorly resurfaced roads have led to multiple accidents, injuries, and even permanent disabilities in some cases. Many roads were also dug up for laying drainage and water pipelines, but post-repair surfacing has often been substandard, worsening the situation.
Features of the PMC Road Mitra App:
Upload 2–3 photos or videos of the pothole
Automatic location tagging using GPS
Direct complaint routing to the jurisdictional junior engineer
Before-and-after photos visible to the complainant
Complaints only closed after photographic proof of repair is uploaded
“The app will help improve accountability and transparency. Once the pothole is filled, officials must upload a photo showing the completed work. The complainant will be able to see both the ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos within the app,” said Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of the Road Department, PMC.
A central dashboard has also been integrated, enabling department heads to monitor complaint redressals in real time. The system will track which officers addressed which complaints, making the process more efficient.

Currently, PMC Road Mitra is available for Android users and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. An iOS version is expected soon. The app will be formally inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram in the coming days.
