Pune, 23rd July 2025: The long-awaited flyover between Shiva Kashid Chowk and Hingne, aimed at easing traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, is now in its final construction phase. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is working to open the 1.5-km stretch to the public by August 15, after missing its initial June 15 deadline due to weather-related delays.

Constructed at a cost of ₹40 crore, the flyover extends from Kashid Chowk in Manikbaug to the petrol pump at Hingne and is part of a larger ₹118 crore initiative that began in 2022 to decongest Sinhagad Road by building three flyovers. Two of these have already been completed and are operational, while the third is now set to become a crucial traffic link.

According to Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., the asphalting work on the Manikbaug ramp has been completed, while the Hingne side ramp is nearing completion. Contractors have been directed to finish all remaining work before August 15.

Key Flyover Details:
Cost: ₹40 crore
Length: 1,540 meters
Beneficiaries: Residents of Dhayari, Narhe, Khadakwasla, Hingne, Anandnagar, Suncity, and Manikbaug
Expected Relief: Reduced congestion on Sinhagad Road and improved connectivity to Swargate

Concerns Over Traffic Bottlenecks
Despite nearing completion, local residents have raised concerns about traffic management at the Hingne ramp. A nursery encroaching the pedestrian path, a tree obstructing part of the road, and the queue of vehicles from the adjacent petrol pump are contributing to traffic snarls. The current design allows vehicles descending from the flyover to take an immediate left turn into the petrol pump, posing a potential risk of accidents.

“There is a serious bottleneck at the Hingne end. The municipal corporation and traffic police must address these issues before opening the flyover,” said a local commuter.

While the flyover promises much-needed relief for commuters, citizens have urged the PMC and traffic department to act swiftly on these safety concerns before the scheduled inauguration.
