Pune, 23rd July 2025: After months of delay, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has resumed its recruitment process for the post of Junior Engineer (Class-3) in the Civil Engineering Branch. The process had been stalled due to the implementation of the Maratha reservation under the SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes) category.

Initially, PMC had advertised 113 vacancies in January 2024. However, with the inclusion of the Maratha quota and a re-evaluation of vacancies, the total number of posts to be filled has now increased to 169. A fresh advertisement will soon be released to reflect this revised count.

According to civic officials, the Divisional Commissioner’s Office verified that there are currently 171 vacant posts in the Civil Engineering Branch. Two of these have already been filled through the Lad-Page Committee recommendations, leaving 169 positions open for recruitment.

Over 27,800 candidates had responded to the January advertisement, but several aspirants have since crossed the upper age limit. Addressing this concern, the state government has granted age relaxation to those applicants, based on the PMC’s recommendation. These candidates will also be allowed to update their category, if applicable.

The revised recruitment process will be conducted through the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), and a formal proposal has been submitted by the civic administration to the Standing Committee for approval.

This marks the third phase of recruitment in recent years. Previously, the PMC successfully recruited 448 and 320 candidates in two separate phases. The current recruitment drive is expected to be one of the largest for junior engineers in the civic body’s civil engineering wing.

Key Highlights:
New vacancy count: 169 posts (up from 113)
Reason for delay: Inclusion of SEBC (Maratha) reservation
Age relaxation: Granted to eligible candidates from earlier application pool
Recruitment agency: IBPS
Next steps: Revised advertisement and Standing Committee approval
