Pune/Pimpri, 27th July 2025: Authorities have issued an alert for residents living near riverbeds of Mula, Mutha, and Pawana rivers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad after a significant release of water from multiple dams on Saturday night.

According to the irrigation department, large volumes of water are being discharged from the following dams as of 9:45 PM:

  • Khadakwasla: 18,483 cusecs
  • Mulshi: 9,400 cusecs
  • Pawana: 1,100 cusecs
  • Varasgaon: 9,074 cusecs
  • Panshet: 3,608 cusecs
  • Bund Garden: 26,824 cusecs

In response to the increased outflow, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have activated emergency response teams and remain on high alert.

Officials have urged citizens residing near the riverbanks and low-lying areas to stay vigilant and avoid venturing near the rivers. “This is a precautionary measure due to rising water levels in the rivers. Teams from PMC and PCMC are on standby to handle any emergencies,” said an official from the irrigation department.

The discharge is part of a controlled water management strategy amid ongoing rainfall in the catchment areas. Authorities are continuously monitoring the situation and will issue updates as necessary.

Residents are advised to follow instructions from local authorities and stay updated through official channels for safety advisories.
