Skip the Drive, Send Your Car to Goa via Train: Konkan Railway Introduces Ro-RO Car Transport Service

Mumbai, 28th July 2025: In a major step towards providing convenient and efficient vehicle transport, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has launched a Roll-On Roll-Off (Ro-RO) service for cars between Kolad in Maharashtra and Verna in Goa. This end-to-end service, introduced as part of KRCL’s commitment to innovative freight solutions, aims to ease long-distance car transportation along the scenic but challenging Konkan route.

Service Schedule and Route

The Ro-RO service will operate on the Kolad–Verna–Kolad corridor, with the following timings:

• Departure from Kolad / Verna: 5:00 PM
• Arrival at Verna / Kolad: 5:00 AM the following day
• Reporting Time: On or before 2:00 PM on the day of departure

Dates of Operation:

• Services begin on August 23, 2025, and run daily till September 11, 2025, on an alternate basis:
  • Kolad to Verna: Aug 23, 25, 27, 29, 31; Sep 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
  • Verna to Kolad: Aug 24, 26, 28, 30; Sep 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11

Operational Details

• Capacity: 40 cars per trip (20 wagons x 2 cars each)
• Minimum Booking Threshold: Trips will only operate if minimum 16 cars are booked. If not, the trip will be cancelled and registration fees refunded.
• Freight Charges: ₹7,875 per car (incl. 5% GST)
  • ₹4,000 at the time of registration
  • ₹3,875 to be paid on the day of journey at the station

Booking Process

• Booking Window: From July 21, 2025 (10:30 AM) to August 13, 2025 (5:00 PM)
• Booking Days: Monday to Friday (Working days)
• Payment Modes: UPI or cash for registration; balance at station via cash, UPI, or credit/debit card
• Required Documents:
  • Aadhaar Card (copy)
  • PAN Card (copy)
  • Car Registration Certificate (RC Book)
  • Valid Insurance of the Car

The registration form must include car and owner details, including a signed indemnity declaration.

Passenger Travel Details

• Passenger Coach: An attached 3AC coach allows two persons per car to travel by paying ₹935 per person.
• SLR Coach: One additional person per car can travel in SLR coach by paying ₹190.
• Maximum: 3 passengers per car
• Ticketing: Issued manually at the station, with cross-reference to the car journey ticket.

Terms & Safety Guidelines

• Customers travel at their own risk and must report 3 hours prior to departure.
• No person is allowed to travel inside the car during the journey. The Ro-RO route is electrified with 25 kV OHE, which is dangerous.
• Cars must be:
  • Secured with lashing belts
  • Locked with hand brakes applied
  • Free from inflammable or illegal items
  • Without loose accessories (e.g., decorative items, antennas)

KRCL provides loading assistance but bears no liability for damage, theft, or personal injuries. A self-declaration and indemnity form must be signed by all users before departure.
