Pimpri-Chinchwad, 31st July 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested two individuals who broke into the bungalow of a senior citizen in the Nigdi Pradhikaran area while armed with a gun. The senior citizen was tied up, and valuables worth Rs 6.15 lakh were stolen. The two thieves, members of a criminal gang, were apprehended by the Anti-Property Crime Cell of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police’s Crime Branch.
The arrested have been identified as Suresh Dhaka (29, resident of Rajasthan) and Mahipal Bishnoi (19, resident of Vadgaon Maval, originally from Rajasthan). A case has been registered against them at Nigdi Police Station for dacoity, wrongful confinement, and other charges.
At a press conference today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr Shivaji Pawar stated that the case was registered on 19th July. Along with confining the senior citizen, the accused stole jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 6,15,000 from a house near Big India Chowk in Nigdi Pradhikaran. The Anti-Property Crime Cell conducted an investigation, reviewing more than 200 CCTV cameras.
Through technical analysis, accused Dhaka was identified. A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Dattatraya Gulig went to Rajasthan and arrested him. The police recovered the Maruti Suzuki Swift used in the crime, four walkie-talkies intended to avoid phone GPS detection, two mobile phones, and some of the stolen items. According to DCP Pawar, Dhaka is a history-sheeter with 21 serious cases registered against him across the country.
DCP Pawar stated that accused Dhaka is the main suspect. He was the one who obtained information about the victim’s home and the valuables that could be stolen. However, how he acquired this information is still under investigation.
Further interrogation revealed that Dhaka committed the crime with Bishnoi, who was arrested in the Talegaon Dabhade area on 27th July. A case has also been registered against one woman and three other suspects; the search for them is ongoing. There has been speculation that the accused is related to infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. However, DCP Pawar denied this, stating that they only share the same surname and are neither related nor from the same village.
When the incident occurred on the night of 19th July, the entire surrounding area was shaken. According to eyewitness reports given to Punekar News, the police were initially unsure whether the accused were still inside the bungalow, leading many to speculate that it was a hostage situation. However, the police later clarified that this was not the case.
Senior Police Inspector Vijay Dhamal, in charge of the Anti-Property Crime Cell, is investigating the case further.
