Pune, 1st August 2025: In a move aimed at providing much-needed relief to milk producers grappling with rising costs, the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union has increased the purchase price of cow milk by ₹1 per litre. The revised rate came into effect at midnight on July 31.

As per the new pricing structure, milk with 3.5% fat and 8.5% SNF (solids-not-fat) will now be procured from farmers at ₹33 per litre. For institutional buyers, including applicable overheads, the rate has been set at ₹33.80 per litre. Notably, the Union has chosen not to increase the retail selling price, ensuring that consumers remain unaffected by the hike.

The decision comes in response to mounting challenges faced by dairy farmers, including the rising cost of fuel, increased prices of animal feed, and a general decline in milk production.

“Recognizing the hardships of milk producers, the Union has taken a positive step by increasing the purchase price without burdening consumers,” said Manoj Limaye, Managing Director of the Pune District Milk Union.

Limaye further urged dairy farmers to ensure the supply of clean, fresh, unadulterated, and high-quality milk in larger quantities to maintain the standard and trust of the cooperative network.

While the Union acknowledged that the price revision may cause financial strain on its operations, officials reiterated their commitment to farmer welfare, stressing that this step would directly benefit producers without impacting household budgets.

The decision has been welcomed by the farming community as a sign of support during a period of economic pressure and rising input costs.
